Abstract

This project will examine how female athletes are framed and represented within sports communication, with a focus on identifying patterns of gender bias across traditional and digital media. The research will analyze existing literature to understand how media portrayals of women athletes differ from those of men and how these differences influence visibility and perception of female athletes. Sources will be organized and compared to reveal recurring trends and highlight the factors that contribute to the biased representation. This research will take place during Fall 2025 and conclude in Spring 2026 with a final written report and presentation at the Williams Honors College Project Showcase. This project will bring awareness to gender bias in sports communication.
