Abstract

This is a response to a paper by Scott Campbell, in which he defends a variant of Parfit's psychological approach to personal identity in which even the widest causal requirement on "psychological connectedness" is dropped. ("Is Causation Necessary for What Matters in Survival?," 'Philosophical Studies' 2005) We criticize Campbell's "psychological sequentialist" approach.
