Description
The purpose of this systematic review is to compare policies for maternal and paternal leave in France and the United States, to determine how differences in policies may influence or affect overall health outcomes in mothers, neonates, and the family. The PICOT question is, “How does paid parental leave for both parents in France compared to the United States influence maternal, neonatal, and family health outcomes?” France federally mandates paid maternity and paternity leave; however, the United States does not provide, or guarantee paid parental leave at the national level. Methods include a PRISMA (2020) guided literature search of the best and highest levels of evidence. This topic is relevant to nursing because nurse are advocates for best outcomes for their patients. The findings can directly impact maternal recovery, health of the infant, and overall wellbeing of the family.
