Abstract
In this paper, the roles of selected individual difference factors were examined in some personal information management (PIM) tasks. A questionnaire was completed by 295 participants regarding their personal characteristics, retrieval of previously saved information, and selective use of multiple computers. Clustering of individual difference factors suggested further analysis of profession and gender as classifiers. Profession seemed to modulate the behaviors and attitudes of users in these PIM tasks. And certain gender difference in PIM tasks could be explained by different expectations or standards.
