Abstract
Throughout history of America’s criminal justice system as it relates to drug use has been utilize as a reactive solution to crime and addiction. In current times, this framework has become ineffective in addressing the criminogenic of the older adult with substance abuse. There needs to be alternatives to the incarceration of this population. The implication for social work is advocacy for policy change, and alternative programs.
