Description

The Black Male Leadership Development Institute (BMLDI) is a program that brings black males in grades 9-12 together in a year-long program designed to increase educational and leadership opportunities and life chances. The BMLDI allows young black men to take the competencies that they already have and expand them into a repertoire of leadership skills that can have a practical impact in their local communities. By creating a supportive learning community and offering a challenging curriculum and rich set of activities that enhance self-awareness, they acquire leadership skills that help change life-outcomes, increase life chances, and empower the young men served to be change agents in their communities. This asset focused program builds from strengths instead of cataloging deficits.

For almost a decade, this program has helped young black men in the Greater Pittsburgh region develop into strong leaders. This presentation will share the culture, objectives, curriculum, resources, assessment tools, and outcomes of this amazing program.
