Length Dependence Of Swnt Optical Features

Matthew Becker

Abstract

The optical features of single wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) are demonstrated to depend on the length of the nanotube. Changes in the absorption peak strength, fluorescence intensity and Raman scattering will be specifically presented. Individualized SWNTs, both DNA-wrapped and surfactant dispersed, are shown to display the same intrinsic length dependence regardless of the separation technique. Data will be presented for both small diameter, CoMoCat and HiPco, and large diameter, laser ablation and electric arc, SWNTs. A discussion of the measurements and their implications will be presented.
