This lecture introduces a new concept, the Bishop Syndrome that was coined (by Professor Jason Seals) after thoughtful examination of the character Bishop from the motion picture Juice and young males of African ancestry living in America. The lecture explores the psychological well being of young males of African ancestry living in America, specifically the relationship between emotional pain and distorted ideas of masculinity. The impact of the Bishop Syndrome will be discussed as well as the necessary steps to develop and maintain healthy masculinity and emotional well being.
