The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering has a long tradition of excellence in education and research. Our goal is to prepare our students with the necessary skills so that they can contribute to a highly technical global society. The department’s recent name change to the “Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering” reflects the increasing role that the biological sciences are having in the evolution of the profession. Commercial products targeting human health care are becoming available as a result of the unique contributions of chemical engineers in the expanding biotechnology industry, particularly in the areas of bioprocessing, biocatalysis, metabolic engineering, gene therapy, cell and tissue engineering, drug design, discovery and delivery, functional genomics and proteomics
